About Sara

My name is Sara Moniuszko, and I am a young journalist with a degree in Communication (with a concentration in journalism) and French from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Currently an intern full-time at USA TODAY’s headquarters in McLean, Virginia as a part of their Life section, I pitch stories as well as take on assigned pieces that focus on entertainment-focused news and other shareable content related to celebrities, music, movies, fashion and more. In the spring, I also wrote for the Life section.

The previous semester, after returning from a semester abroad, I interned at NBC Washington as a part of their digital news team. There, I wrote local news and lifestyle stories, cut and uploaded videos from the broadcast to the website and helped cover the 2016 presidential election.

My semester abroad was at SciencesPo, a political science institute in Paris, France, where I gained a more global perspective and sharpened my French speaking skills. Thanks to an internship with USA TODAY College, I was able to extend my stay in France to write news and feature articles as a Collegiate Correspondent.

The previous summer, I interned for USA TODAY’s Life section for the first time where I wrote 90-plus articles, went on assignments in the D.C. area and helped run their social media platforms.

Other experience includes my work with Mason’s student-run newspaper, Fourth Estate, where I started my freshman year as a staff writer before working my way through multiple editor positions until I became the Co-Editor-in-Cheif of the entire publication in fall 2015. In addition to editing stories, generating ideas, managing a team of editors and ensuring timely content production, I also found time to take on stories myself not only to keep my writing skills sharp, but for my own enjoyment.

On top of my work with Fourth Estate, I also held a position as a daily news anchor with the Mason Cable Network, where I worked as on-camera talent for the Mason Cable News daily updates every Thursday morning. In this role, I also wrote scripts, set up camera equipment and edited video.

In addition to my journalism skills, I also have experience with public relations and marketing. The summer after my freshman year, I was a marketing intern for the Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust at Patrick Henry Mall where I managed all of the mall’s social media platforms, organized and completed marketing-related projects and contributed ideas for marketing campaigns. The following semester, I worked as a campus representative for the clothing company Serengetee as well as the social publication website RIZZARR.
